Cloudflare and Kiwifarms: An Ominous Cloudflare Executive?

#DropKiwiFarms has been trending on Twitter for some time now. The movement seeks to shut down Kiwi Farms – an evil website that this site has been campaigning against since 2016. Members of the campaign have been pushing for support services and providers to terminate the site – in particular Cloudflare. Cloudflare has today released a response (archive) that many have interpreted as a veiled refusal – essentially saying that it is dangerous and not their job to ban websites. In this article I muse on and recap on some of the Kiwis worst hits and recount a disturbing rumour about Cloudflare that some readers might want to look into. It is alleged that a particular Cloudflare user is a Cloudflare executive.

Kiwifarms markets itself as for, “gossip and exploitation of the mentally handicapped for amusement purposes”. Users of the site would defame and manipulate persons with serious disabilities living in the community – female members would even meet them and record ‘dates’ for cruel entertainment. The most well-known victim of the site was Christian Weston Chandler (CWC or Chris-chan), a vulnerable autistic man, now known as Christine whose life became a goldfish bowl – almost a real-life Truman-show. CWC is currently on trial for alleged incest with his mother. He is innocent until proven guilty, but there is substantial evidence that Kiwi Farms users sought to persuade him to commit the act. If he is guilty, it is beyond doubt that the Kiwis bear moral responsibility and likely legal responsibility.

The campaign by Keffals has been supported by some and criticised by others. It is a source of interest to me because I have seen both sides of this argument. Suing and campaigning to silence false and defamatory speech, whilst also wanting to protect controversial speech including, for example, Milo Yiannopoulos. I do not agree with a lot of what Milo says but he did not deserve to be banned from Twitter. I have been reflecting on the moral line. What is the difference? It is this –

What would happen to me if I started a website called SamsDrugsRUs.com and sold cocaine online? I would be arrested. Any service provider that found out would ban me. I would have my door kicked in by police and spend decades in prison. There is a reason drugs markets are on the darknet. There is no country in the world where that is legal. There is no country that will enforce a contract that one party is using for illegal purposes. You can evict a tenant who is running an illegal brothel or a crack-den. You can drop a website that is engaging in copyright violations.

The line with Kiwi Farms is the blatant illegality on the site itself and the spin-offs. Marjorie Taylor Greene is not the first politician targeted in connection with the site. Kiwi Farms owner Joshua Conner Moon set up a site called 9chan where users made a forum called /leftnudes/ for stalking left-wing politicians and boasted about trying to break in to British Member of Parliament Jess Phillips’ house.

Members of sinister Kiwi Farms sister-site 9chan (also owned by Joshua Conner Moon) claim that they tried to break in to Jess Phillips' house.

So why should Kiwifarms be banned and not Milo? Kiwifarms should not be banned for racism, which is legal in its jurisdiction under the 1st Amendment. It should be banned because it is a site for stalking, harassment and malicious defamation. Stalking definitions, even in 1st Amendment jurisdictions like Florida, include the following or variations thereof in nearly every country in the world –

“To engage in a course of conduct to communicate, or to cause to be communicated, directly or indirectly, words, images, or language by or through the use of electronic mail or electronic communication, directed at or pertaining to a specific person

causing substantial emotional distress to that person and serving no legitimate purpose.”

“Exploitation of the mentally handicapped”, is not a legitimate purpose. Of course, even a broken clock is right sometimes. Kiwifarms by its lawless nature covers some legitimate issues that are censored elsewhere, such as the controversy over Jonathan Yaniv. However, a large amount of content is simply stalking private citizens with neither wealth nor power. Kiwi lies about media figures like (for example) Milo Yiannopoulos or Lauren Southern are relatively inconsequential because the sheer amount of mainstream content pushes their content pages down search results.

Whilst Kiwis claim their site is a vital free speech resource or a harmless jokey gossip forum it is in reality a gang-stalking site targeting the weak, or occasionally more powerful people like me who have done the Kiwis (well deserved) harm.

Kiwis alternate pious denials of harassing the subjects of their interest with (for example) threads about all the penis photos they have sent them, or photographs of their children. There is revenge porn – private nudes of unwise young people, including cruel comments. In one case, of Julie Terryberry, after her Kiwi induced suicide they dumped a list of her Facebook friends – family members to target for stalking and taunting over her suicide. That is not a legitimate purpose and it is not legal anywhere in the world. The Kiwis have gotten away with this only because of FBI inaction, and inaction of companies like Cloudflare.

Disagreement with policy issues on transgender persons is legitimate. Stalking individuals for fun is not. It is a clear and easily drawn difference.

I do a lot of activism in the real world, and although over the years this site has devastated Kiwi Farms I have in recent times left that fight to others. My last major involvement was persuading MasterCard to shut down the entirety of the NewProject2 payment platform because it funded Joshua Moon and Kiwi Farms.

One matter I have not had the time to look into is this: there is an allegation that a senior executive at Cloudflare is a keen and pretty unpleasant member of Kiwifarms. The reasons for this suspicion are that the user has similar qualifications and written style to a member of the Cloudflare team, but also that they have in the past released information about Cloudflare before it was announced. Of course, it may be untrue. Perhaps it is true but the rest of Cloudflare leadership does not know and would be horrified.

If it is true, Joshua Moon is unlikely to help expose them, perhaps he would even obscure their identity. Of course, by coincidence Kiwifarms were recently hacked and the site database was published on the ‘breached <dot> to’ hacker site, available to all for the price of eight credits, which can be purchased for a few dollars in bitcoins. Journalists with access to this might be able to uncover more.

Supporters of #DropKiwiFarms might like to tweet Cloudflare Chief Executive Matthew Prince, @EastDakota, with this question – “Do you know the identity of the Kiwifarms user, ‘Anominous‘?” I for one would like to know the answer.
